The Prosecutions Unit, led by the Criminal Deputy, helps coordinate the investigation and leads the prosecution of abuse and neglect cases that may rise to the level of crimes. A team of Assistant Special Prosecutors and Justice Center Investigators works together to prosecute cases and coordinate criminal cases with local District Attorneys and law enforcement agencies. Activities include:
- Working with the Investigations Unit to categorize abuse and neglect incidents;
- Coordinating with the Investigations Unit to prepare case records to support criminal charges;
- Representing the People of the State of New York in court proceedings to prosecute suspects; and
- Assisting local District Attorney’s offices and local law enforcement agencies with their investigations and prosecutions of cases of abuse and neglect of vulnerable persons.
